As part of the decontamination of anti-personnel mines carried out by the Colombian Navy in the Montes de María subregion, the controlled destruction of two anti-personnel mines in the Department of Bolivar was possible.

Thanks to the timely call of a peasant who carried out agricultural work on the farm Villa Daniela, in the village of San Francisco, troops of the Humanitarian Demining company No.1 of the Navy Infantry Brigade No.1, reached that rural area of the municipality of Zambrano and found the explosive devices that endangered civilians.

Complying with all safety protocols established by the international standards of the Organization of American States -OAS-, expert staff of the Company for Humanitarian Demining conducted a controlled destruction of the two anti-personnel mines type Balloon bomb; it is presumed, it would have been in the ground since years ago due to the armed conflict in the region.

In the same way, with the purpose of preventing accidents due to anti-personnel mines and unexploded ordnance, a mine risk training was given to the community of this village, providing practical tools and safe behaviors in case of finding a strange devices on farms or rural areas, emphasizing on giving immediate notice to the authorities and moving away of the place.
