Two men of Dominican nationality were arrested during the operation.
The operation was supported by an aircraft of the Southern Interagency Joint Task Force.
The Colombian Navy obtained an important result in the fight against drug trafficking networks, thanks to the interception of a speedboat carrying 507 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride in Northern Caribbean waters, approximately 140 nautical miles from Riohacha, department of La Guajira.
The operation began because the permanent surveillance teams detected the departure of a Go Fast type boat that, apparently, was destined for a Central American country. Immediately, a Rapid Reaction Unit -URR of the Coast Guard Station of Santa Marta was sent, which, with the support of a patrol aircraft of the Southern Interagency Joint Task Force (JIAF-S), intercepted the ship.
During the operation, 21 packages containing 510 rectangular pieces were found by troops, along with two individuals of Dominican nationality. Subsequently, the Judicial Police authorities carried out the Approved Preliminary Identification Test, through which it was determined that the shipment was made of 507 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride.
Through this result, the Naval Institution prevented the entry of more than 24 million dollars into the finances of drug trafficking and the distribution of approximately 1.2 million doses on the streets of the world.
While being towed, the ship had a leak and ended up sinking due to adverse weather conditions. However, the Coast Guard personnel secured the arrested and recovered all the material found, which was later handed over to the authority.
