Colombian Navy seized more than a ton of cocaine in waters of the Golfo de Urabá

These results are a loss of more than USD$43 million for drug trafficking organizations.

In the course of maritime control operations in the Caribbean Sea, conducted by units of the Colombian Navy, it was possible to find 1,301 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride that were transported by four individuals aboard a boat in the Golfo de Urabá.

The seizure was made thanks to actions of the Coast Guard Units of Urabá attached to the Caribbean Naval Force, who, thanks to information and in coordination with the Anti-drug, Criminal and Interpol Investigation Units (SIU-DIJIN) of the National Police, detected the suspicious boat 26 nautical miles away northwest of Punta Arenas, Necoclí, Antioquia.

Immediately, the troops carried out the maritime interception. 56 bags that stored 1,399 rectangular packages with illicit substances were found inside the boat.

Once the material was verified, the boat and the individuals were taken to the Coast Guard Station of Urabá, where the Preliminary Identification Tests (PIPH) were conducted and delivered a positive result for 1.3 tons of cocaine hydrochloride.

Thanks to these operations, the Organized Armed Groups that commit crimes in this region of the country will no longer receive more than USD$43 million, which affects the incomes from drug trafficking and prevent more than 3 million personal doses to be sold in international markets.

The material found and those captured were put into custody of the authorities.
