This historic finding was made during a night operation in the Colombian Amazonas region.
In an unprecedented operation in the south of the country, the Colombian Navy seized 3.5 tons of creepy type marijuana in the El Encanto, department of Amazonas, dealing a historic blow to the finances of the Residual Organized Armed Group - GAOr- Comandos de Frontera, one of the main structures specialized in drug trafficking in this region.
The result occurred during a nighttime river control, when a tug of the Amazon River Flotilla detected, using radar, two suspicious contacts. In conditions of total darkness and thanks to the expertise of the Navy Infantry pilots, the troops arrived at the place, where they found two rudimentary boats rawana type, abandoned on the riverbank because their crew members perceived the activity of the military personnel.
Hidden double-bottomed compartments were found by troops inside, containing 117 sacks with 3,504 rectangular packages, whose color and odor characteristics were similar to those of marijuana.
After a navigation of 270 nautical miles, the units arrived in the municipality of Puerto Legu铆zamo, department of Putumayo, with the illegal merchandise, where the Criminal Investigation Section - SIJIN (JUDICIAL POLICE) - of the National Police, carried out the Approved Preliminary Identification Test, determining that it was 3,504 kilograms of marijuana.
This finding, the largest in the history of the Amazon Naval Force, represents a serious blow to the logistical and financial chain of drug trafficking, preventing more than 19 million dollars from entering the Comandos de Frontera structure and transnational crime organizations. In the same way, the production and distribution of 581,664 doses in national and international illegal markets was prevented.
