During the operation, the troops arrested an alleged member of this organized armed group and they also found an illegal hiding place with abundant war material, military accessories, communications and explosives.
In fulfillment of the strategic objectives of weakening the resources of the threat, of protecting the inhabitants and the governability framed in the Ayacucho Operations Plan, troops of the Seventeenth Brigade, in a coordinated operation with the National Police and Attorney General of the Nation, engaged combats that led to the arrest of an individual, who would be alleged member of the Carlos Vásquez Substructure, of the GAO Clan del Golfo. In the same way, impacting their strategic and terrorist plans, it was possible to find 141 kilograms of explosive material, as well as military accessories and communications material; elements with which they planned to attack the life and good physical condition of the inhabitants.
The combat took place in the village of La Estrella, in the municipality of Tierra Alta, Córdoba, southwest of the department. There, the soldiers carry out the operation by information obtained by military intelligence about the activity of members of the Clan del Golfo.
The organized armed group, when confronted by the troops, opened fire attacking the life and good physical condition of the soldiers. This triggered an armed combat, in which one of the attackers ended up injured.
The troops, respecting human rights and international humanitarian law, provided first aid through a combat nurse, always respecting his life.
The explosive material was destroyed in controlled way in the sector by expert personnel of the institution, in order to prevent environmental impact and always working to increase the good physical condition of the troops and the community.
