Conference led by Military Forces strengthens relations among climate, environment, peace and security

Seminario liderado por Fuerzas Militares fortalece vínculos entre clima, ambiente, paz y seguridad

This September 25th and 26th, in the facilities of the Fortaleza Building, the conference Climate, Environment, Peace and Security: Strengthening inter–institutional coordination for resilience in Colombia is being held, an initiative of the General Command of the Military Forces, through the Sub-Directorate of the General Staff of Strategic Planning - Joint Environmental Department and Disaster Risk Management.

The event is supported by adelphi research, within the framework of the Weathering Risk program, supported by the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany, and its main objective is to strengthen institutional resources in the face of current environmental challenges and their relationship with peace and security in the country.

During these two activities, officers, non-commissioned officers and civilian personnel of Colombian National Army, the Colombian Navy and the Colombian Aerospace Force participate in training and reflection spaces on climate change, biodiversity loss, disaster risk management and the protection of vulnerable villages. The conference promotes critical analysis and inter-institutional coordination as key tools to face these challenges.

Captain Mariana García Prieto, Director of Environmental Protection and Management, addressed the role of the Military Forces in environmental protection and peacebuilding, highlighting the institutional commitment to sustainability and environmental security.
