Air Combat Command No. 4 completed the second day of air operations in support of the efforts to extinguish the forest fire that is reported in the municipality of Prado, Tolima. To date, 14,598 gallons of water have been used in 62 water drops and 30 gallons of retardant liquid, thanks to helicopters equipped with the bambi bucket system.
During today's activity, 25 additional water drops were made, equivalent to 5,472 gallons of water, which led to strengthening inter-institutional work on the ground and mitigating fire in sectors that are difficult to access.
In coordination with the Forest Brigade of the Southeast of Tolima, the Volunteer Fire Brigade of Prado, personnel of the Mayor's Office and units of Colombian National Army, an operation plan was established based on the initial aerial review and the monitoring carried out with a drone over the area of greatest damage.
According to the estimates, the fire has consumed approximately 900 hectares, generating a heavy environmental impact in this mountainous region, the adverse terrain conditions, added to the constant and high intensity winds have made the extinction work difficult, prolonging the emergency.
