Two suspected hitmen linked to recent homicides were arrested in Yondo, department of Antioquia, as well as an individual related to intimidation, extortion and burning of yellow machinery in Landázuri, department of Santander.
Within the framework of the operations carried out by Colombian National Army, in coordination with the National Police and the Attorney General's Office, two important results were possible that directly hit the criminal resources of the GAO Clan del Golfo in this region of the country.
The most powerful blow occurred in the village of San Miguel del Tigre, in Yondo, department of Antioquia, where alias Chuler and alias Jincho, alleged members of the focused criminal component of the Edgar Madrid Benjumea Substructure, of the GAO Clan del Golfo, were arrested through patrol work.
According to intelligence work carried out for a month, these individuals would be part of the network in charge of carrying out selective homicides, intimidating the inhabitants and maintaining an atmosphere of anxiety in rural and urban sectors of the municipality. During their arrest, a .38 caliber revolver, 6 cartridges, cell phones and a motorcycle on which they were traveling and allegedly committing criminal operations were seized.
In the second operation, in the village of Miralindo, of Landázuri, department of Santander, the arrest was made in flagrante delicto of alias Murcia, who apparently pretended to be a member of the GAO ELN to conduct constraint, threats and pressures against the inhabitants, in addition to carrying out propaganda stuff through graffiti alluding to this organization.
Intelligence information indicates that alias Murcia would in the same way be involved in the burning of yellow machinery used for mining, as retaliation for the non-payment of extortions. A revolver, 6 .38 caliber cartridges and a cell phone were seized in this operation.
All those arrested were put into custody of the judicial authorities to continue with due process.
