Military operations in this department led to the arrest of alias Carroloco, member of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo. He is an individual considered a strategic objective within the timely operation plan (PAO in Spanish) of the National Government.
In a joint, coordinated and inter-institutional effort by the Military Forces, the National Police and the Attorney General's Office, it was possible to strike two of the organized armed groups that commit crimes in the department of Choc贸.
The first result was given in response to the recommendations of the early warnings 026 of 2018 and 009 of 2020, issued by the Ombudsman's Office. Thus was possible the arrest alias Carroloco, accused as alleged head of hitmen of the GAO Clan del Golfo, who would in the same way be the perpetrator of the murder of indigenous leader Aquileo Mecheche, occurred in 2019.
He is responsible for committing crimes and extortion actions against both social leaders and civilians and merchants from the municipalities of Riosucio, Carmen del Dari茅n and Vig铆a del Fuerte.
He would also be accused of the crimes of aggravated homicide and association to commit crimes, being the alleged perpetrator of the double homicide and theft of weapons of endowment of two patrollers of the National Police, in the urban area of the municipality of Riosucio, last 22 February 2021.
In the second blow against the GAO Clan del Golfo, in the municipality of Vig铆a del Fuerte and in compliance with the recommendations given by the Ombudsman's Office, in the early warning 016 of August 2021, two rustic laboratories for the production of coca base paste that were used to sustain the illicit activities of this group were found by troops and destroyed.
The military operation in turn led to the surrender to justice of one of the members of the criminal component of this substructure, as well as the finding of about 600 gallons of fuel.
On the other hand, the area territorial control operations carried out by the Land Operations Battalion No.26 led to the voluntary surrender of two members of the Company N茅stor Tulio Dur谩n, of the GAO ELN, in the municipality of Chachajo, municipality of Alto Baud贸; both men were removed of the area, in order to begin their process in the demobilization program.
