Defense Minister announces reinforcement of security for the department of Cesar

Ministro de Defensa anuncia refuerzo de la seguridad en el Cesar

The Government of this department will invest more than $30,000 million in vehicles, drones, river patrols, software and equipment for the Military Forces and the Prosecutor's Office.

Eight ships of the National Navy will arrive in the region: six before November 2025 and two in March 2026

The Minister of National Defense, Pedro Sánchez Suárez, led a Security Council in Valledupar with national, departmental and municipal authorities, in which measures were adopted to strengthen security in the department of Cesar.

The head of the Ministry of Defense announced that the arrival of eight Colombian Navy ships will increase “control of the Magdalena River from 50% to 75%,” which he described as “the highest increase we have in rivers control in the entire country.”

Part of the reinforcement of the department's security includes the arrival of 14 judicial investigators, 30 more men for the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) and 473 police officers, with the projection of adding 86 in November.

Minister Sánchez Suárez said that the so-called Conquistadores Self-defense Forces of the Sierra Nevada were declared an organized armed group, which enables the use of all the legitimate force of the State. He in the same way reiterated that the operation will continue against other actors such as the Eln, dissidents of the extinct FARC and the GAO Clan del Golfo cartel.

Finally, the minister called on people to denounce and prevent the recruitment of minors, reiterating that the department's security “requires the coordination of all levels of the State and citizen collaboration.”
