Defense minister rejected vandalism and called for "the full strength of law against vandals"

44 police officers have been injured as a result of the vandalism.

 

The Military Forces defended democracy and public and private goods.

 

With aircraft, drones and more than 47 thousand soldiers, the security of citizens was guaranteed.

 

The Minister of Defense Diego Molano, presented a new report on the facts that in terms of Law and order were relevant during the activity of protests and demonstrations. The minister highlighted the timely reaction of the Military Forces to stop the largest amount of acts of vandalism.

 

“I want to recognize the work of 47,504 men and women, police and soldiers, who during the social demonstrations acted to protect Colombians and guarantee our democracy. During the rest of the night, Colombians will sleep peacefully, there will be the soldiers and police of the homeland," said the Minister of Defense.

 

He in the same way reported that in nearly 200 municipalities in the country, groups of people were reported demonstrating in a peaceful and respectful manner, with the exception of the acts of vandalism that occurred in Cali, Bogotá and Medellín.

 

Following the acts of vandalism in Cali, the Minister of Defense decided to increase the number of units in the city with 850 police units and 450 soldiers of the National Army, in order to guarantee the security of citizens, public institutions and Commerce.

 

26 arrests have been made in 6 cities: 19 in Bogotá, 3 in Neiva, 1 in Manizales, 1 in Guajira, 1 in Cali, and 1 in Pasto. In addition, 14 people have been taken to the authorities.

 

"We will continue working all night at the PMU and in territory so that Colombians are calm," said the head of the Ministry of Defense.

 

Finally, the Minister of Defense reported that, as a consequence of the vandalism acts, 44 policemen have been injured.
