Dr. Manuel Elkin Patarroyo and his team were rescued after drifting in the Amazonas River

Thanks to the rapid response of the Coast Guard Rapid Reaction Units on the Amazonas River, the Colombian Navy managed to rescue in recent hours, Dr. Manuel Élkin Patarroyo and three Colombian citizens, who were in research activities.

The motorboat, in which Dr. Manuel Elkín Patarroyo, Professor Hernán Roldán of the National University, a collaborator and the pilot of the boat were traveling, would have drifted near Puerto Nariño (Amazonas), after apparently suffering technical failures of the engine, which forced the crew to establish communication with the Amazonas Coast Guard Command.

Immediately, a search and rescue operation was activated for the finding that of the motorboat and its passengers, who were assisted and taken to the “Victoria Regia” pier in Leticia. Once on the ground, Coast Guard personnel of the Amazonas received Dr. Patarroyo and his team, and then conducted a medical evaluation and verified their health.

Dr. Patarroyo thanked the members of the Colombian Navy for the rescue, and for the work carried out by the institution protecting the rivers and coasts, both in the Amazonas region and throughout the country.
