This Amphibious Landing Ship will transport more than 130 tons of machinery and aid to the island.

Within the framework of international cooperation, the U.S. ship ChickaHominy will support the embarkation and transport maneuvers of heavy machinery, which will be used in the reconstruction of the island of Providencia. It will carry out the transport of humanitarian aid, including water and security elements.

The crew is composed of more than 10 men of the U.S. Army, trained for landing operations in areas of difficult access, who will be in charge of transporting these supplies, including posts for the electric lights, three cranes, yellow machinery for the reconstruction of structures, a water tank of the Unidad Nacional de Gesti贸n del Riesgo (National Unit for Risk Management) -UNGRD - and support vehicles of the Navy of Colombia. This support aims the adequacy of structures and removal of debris, caused by the Hurricane IOTA.

This coordinated effort conducted by Military Forces, emergency response agencies and international cooperation help to make successful progress in mitigating the impact of the natural phenomenon. It is noteworthy that, during the 14-day operation of the Unified Command Checkpoint in the city of Cartagena, more than 450 tons of humanitarian aid and communications equipment, debris removal and machinery used in the restoration of the infrastructure of the Providencia Island have been transported by air and sea.
