Thanks to the timely reaction of the units of the Santa Marta Coast Guard Station, the maritime productive groups and the fishermen's productive groups, it was possible to safeguard the life of a 55-year-old fisherman 4.5 nautical miles from Taganga, on Isla Aguja, Magdalena.
The facts were known through the emergency call made by the President of the Taganga Chinchorreros Corporation, who informed the Maritime Traffic Control Station of the disappearance of a fisherman who was conducting fishing work in the Bajos arrecifes sector, in the maritime area of the Tayrona National Natural Park, since last Thursday, April 7, 2022.
Immediately, the Naval Institution activated the search operation that took place over two days, activating the established protocols and directing ships to the emergency area, to carry out patterns left by the Integrated Search and Rescue System of the Santa Marta Maritime Traffic Station. Simultaneously, naval aircraft conducted an aerial search in the area.
After 43 hours of emergency, this morning, the members of the Santa Marta Coast Guard reported finding and rescuing the fisherman clinging to a rock at sea. The Coast Guard approached quickly and safely recovering him and bringing him to safety aboard a Santa Marta Coast Guard rapid reaction unit, where he was given hydration and later he was taken to the Taganga sector where he found his family and partners, and was taken to the Medical Assistance Center for his health check.
According to what was reported by the fisherman, the emergency occurred when he got adrift due to mechanical failures of the engine of the boat in which he was fishing and given the heavy weather conditions, the boat shipwrecked and the sinking occurred.
