cogfm-ejercito-nacional-uraba-antioquia-se-beneficiara-con-desminado-humanitario-23.jpg

This year, in Antioquia, mine clearance specialists have the challenge of demining 258,000 square meters

The municipality of Apartad贸, Antioquia, is one of the challenges that the soldiers of the Demining Engineers Battalion No.60 have in this 2021.

The work in that part of Urab谩 will begin after the extraordinary Security Council for humanitarian demining, where will be determined how many mines there are in the territory.

According to the municipal file, Apartad贸 has had 99 activations of anti-personnel mines and reports 44 victims: 33 military personnel and 11 civilians.

It is important to note that currently mine clearance specialists work in the municipalities of San Luis, Montebello, Concepci贸n, Alejandr铆a, Santo Domingo, Granada and San Carlos. These last two areas had to be intervened again because of the return of inhabitants, who reported possible areas with mines.

The troops have cleared 23 municipalities in Antioquia, intervening over 2,000,000 square meters and destroying 785 anti-personnel mines and 56 unexploded ordnance.

For this year, the goal in that region of Colombia is to carry out the demine operation in 258,000 square meters and deliver the municipality of Santo Domingo, which has a progress of 90%, since only 6,000 square meters of the village La Aldea require to be examined.

In addition to the mission being conducted in Antioquia, the troops will also begin demine work through Non-technical Studies in the capital of Cesar and in the capital of La Guajira.

For their part, the soldiers of the Demining Unit have planned the planting of 17,000 native seedlings in the different territories where the humanitarian demining is taking place.
