It is estimated that the economic damage would amount to 10 million dollars.
Within the framework of military operations aligned to the Ayacucho Joint Strategic Campaign Plan, soldiers of the Rapid Deployment Battalion No. 6, in an operation coordinated with the Anti-Narcotics Directorate of the National Police, dismantled a laboratory that was used for the production of cocaine hydrochloride in the vicinity of the village of El Vergel, municipality of Sandoná, department of Nariño.
This result of the military operation occurred thanks to the information provided by the people while the troops were carrying out defensive tasks in the area; in this way the finding of the laboratory, which inside had eight structures for the production of the drug took place.
The first structure was prepared as a warehouse, which stored more than 800 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride, more than 2,200 gallons of liquid supplies and 360 kilograms of solid supplies.
The second structure was equipped with tools and machinery for the drying process of the coca leaf, later, the third, fourth and fifth structures were found by troops, used as lodgings to apparently house members of the organized armed group Comuneros del Sur, to whom the facilities would presumably belong, along with the narcotic.
Later, the sixth, seventh and eighth structures were found by troops, which were used as a boiling facility, compressor and kitchen, respectively. The items found in the laboratory were destroyed in controlled conditions complying with all safety protocols.
By means of this finding, the finances of this GAO were hit by approximately 10 million dollars, since it had the capacity to produce three tons of cocaine hydrochloride; in turn, 2.1 million doses of the drug were stopped from being marketed on the international illegal market.
