Meeting of cooperation in support of national, regional and hemispheric security

Encuentro de cooperación en apoyo a la seguridad nacional, regional y hemisférica

In order to continue strengthening cooperation strategies to fight against drugs and transnational organized crime, Mr. Major General Carlos Fernando Silva Rueda, Commander of the Colombian Aerospace Force (acting) in a meeting with Mrs. Rear Admiral Jo-Ann F. Burdia, Director of the Joint Interagency Task Force South (JIATF-S for its acronym in English), addressed issues related to the strengthening of military operation resources within the framework of the ZEUS strategy in the region and the hemisphere.

During this atmosphere of dialogue and exchange, the results obtained through the coordination of efforts, wills and resources provided by the United States, the participating countries of Central America and the Caribbean were also at the event, in order to maxime combined and interagency operations, for an effective control of air spaces and the significant reduction of illicit flights in Central American countries.

In the same way, this visit led to highlight the different cooperation opportunities generated since the signing of the Air Brigade Denial agreement by the Governments of Colombia and the United States of America in 2003, which has contributed to providing resources, technical assistance to aircraft and training, in order to carry out operations aimed at countering sources of financing of these criminal structures in the region, the hemisphere and with global reach.
