In the midst of firefights, Colombian National Army managed to free a social leader who was in the hands of the ELN in Cauca

En medio de combates, Ejército Nacional logró liberación de una líder social que estaba en manos del ELN en el Cauca

Troops of the Rapid Deployment Force No. 4, in coordination with the National Police, rescued a woman belonging to the indigenous reserve of Pancitará, municipality of La Vega, who was being held by the organized armed group ELN, in a rural area of the department of Cauca.

The military operation was carried out in the village of La Pintada, hamlet San Miguel, municipality of La Vega, where through intelligence and tactical maneuvers the point where the victim remained kidnapped was found. Upon arriving at the place, the troops were attacked with firearms by members of this criminal structure, which started a firefight.

After more than two hours of clashes, the military units neutralized the threat and worked to increase the safety of the victim, who was rescued in good health. During the military operations, a member of this organized armed group died, and firearms, ammunition and other war material were found by troops.

The freed woman was accompanied by the troops to a safe point, where she was handed over to leaders of her community, with whom her return to the shelter and the support by the institutions were coordinated. In parallel, contact was established with local authorities to conduct the corresponding operations in the area.
