The Military Forces continue to reinforce security and humanitarian support in Chocó

15 tons of humanitarian aid are to be sent, arranged by various institutions of the State, on board the amphibious landing ship ARC 'Bahía Colombia'. This aid is expected to be distributed on Friday, May 10, in Juradó, in the department of Chocó.

 

Coordinated operations of the Military Forces, through the National Navy, security councils and the taking of measures by the different State agencies and authorities, are some of the operations that are on progress to counteract the displacement situation of the indigenous people in the municipality of Juradó, in the department of Chocó.

 

On Sunday, May 5, in the municipality of Juradó, a meeting was held by Vice Admiral Antonio José Martínez Olmos, Commander of the Pacific Naval Force; the director of the Colombian Family Wellbeing Institute - ICBF, Juliana Pungiluppi, several members of the Ministry of Health and other civil and military authorities of the area, to deal again with the issue of displacement and also to specify operations for the distribution of humanitarian aid.

 

Several actions will be taken by the Chocó Governor's Office, the City Hall, the Personería, the representatives of the Indigenous “Cabildos” and members of the National Army, the Colombian Navy and the National Police, such as the increase of coordinated security operations in the area and the restoration of the rights of the indigenous communities of El Cedral, Pichindé, Las Lomas, El Bongo, La Victoria, Caimito, Dos Bocas and Buenavista; communities that under forced displacement.

 

In relation to the support for this community, 15 tons of humanitarian aid are to be transported in a Colombian Navy ship from the port of Buenaventura, in the department of Valle del Cauca, to Juradó, in the department of Chocó, in order to benefit the inhabitants of the different indigenous communities hit by the confrontations, due to fight for drug trafficking routes, conducted by the Organized Armed Groups GAO, ELN and the “Clan del Golfo”, in this area of ​​the Colombian Pacific.

 

The humanitarian aid will be transferred by the amphibious landing ship ARC 'Bahía Colombia' and contains non-perishable food, kitchen elements, toiletries, medicines, diapers, mattresses, blankets, water purifiers, first aid kits. For minors, educational elements, toys, among others. This material was prepared by the National Victims Unit and it must be distributed next Friday, May 10, in Juradó. When the aid arrives in that region, local and indigenous authorities must activate the humanitarian routes for the distribution among the displaced communities.
