So far in 2022, 27 members of the Organized Armed Group, GAO in Spanish, Clan del Golfo have been arrested on the Colombian Pacific coast; four deaths of its members have been reported during military operations as well as four voluntary surrenders.

More than 8,200 kilos of cocaine hydrochloride and 4,235 kilos of marijuana have been found in the department of Chocó, damaging the illegal finances of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, by more than 340 million dollars.

The Colombian Navy has managed to deal resounding blows to the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo that commit crimes on the Colombian Pacific coast. Troops arrested three of its alleged members during different operations carried out jointly with the National Army and coordinated with the National Police.

The first operation took place on the Baudó River near Pizarro, in municipal seat of Bajo Baudó, department of Chocó, where by intelligence information was found alias Mesi, alleged financial ringleader who at the time of his arrest was carrying a pistol-type firearm and more than 15 million pesos in cash. These elements did not have the documents to support their legality, they were found by troops and the individual was subsequently given to the competent authorities for the alleged crime of manufacturing, trafficking, carrying or possession of firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition.

During the second operation, carried out in La gente de La Barra, troops found approximately 40 kilometers of the urban center of Buenaventura, it was possible to arrest two alleged members of this criminal organization, who, according to denunciations, were making threats to the inhabitants of La Barra, Ladrilleros and Juanchaco, trying to cause constraint and forcing merchants to close their premises. Thanks to the denunciations, it was possible to deploy an operation that ended with the arrest of two individuals for the alleged crime of manufacturing, trafficking, carrying or possession of firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition.

During these operations, two pistol-type firearms were found by troops, which were used to intimidate civilians, communication equipment and ammunition of different calibers. The arrested individuals and the materials were put into custody of the authorities.

The Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, is the main responsible for  leading criminal activities such as drug trafficking, extortion of merchants and forced recruitment of children, young people and adolescents in this region of the country. So this result is damaging in a decisive way the capacity to commit crimes and the intentions of expansion in the coastal colombian Pacific, and troops favor the security of the people and of the productive and business groups that were threatened by these criminals.
