Minister of Defense will strengthen security and support to communal leaders of the metropolitan area of Barranquilla

MinDefensa fortalecerá seguridad y apoyo a líderes comunales del área metropolitana de Barranquilla

About 200 members of the Community Police and 60 of the Children and Adolescents police have been brought in for close support work to the inhabitants of the five municipalities.

The resources of the Military and Police Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) will be strengthened to combat extortion.

As part of the institutional commitments in favor of the tranquility and well-being of the inhabitants, the Minister of National Defense Pedro Sánchez Suárez, led a Security Dialogue with Communal leaders of the metropolitan area of Barranquilla.

In this meeting, in which members of the Communal Action Boards of Barranquilla, Galapa, Malambo, Puerto Colombia and Soledad, in the department of Atlántico, participated; the main concerns and vulnerabilities hitting the neighborhoods of these municipalities were addressed. In this diagnosis, high-impact crimes such as homicide, theft, microtrafficking and extortion were identified.

Faced with this situation, the Ministry of Defense, in coordination with the National Police, resources will be deployed so that in a close way, they can contribute to improving the conditions of security in the communes.

About 200 members of the Military Forces of the Community Police specialty and more than 60 of Children and Adolescents have been sent to carry out prevention activities and rapprochement with the communities to generate environments of trust, and in this way, establish communication channels that work reducing crimes and behaviors contrary to coexistence.

Within the analysis carried out by the authorities, it was identified that the majority of extortion crimes are committed from prisons, which is why the timely reporting of victims is essential to be able to counteract this threat to citizen security.

For its part, Colombian National Army has the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) and motorized patrols who carry out mixed patrols with the National Police at strategic points that require a focused effort against crime.

The Minister of Defense Pedro Sánchez Suárez confirmed that the National Police will conduct a series of conferences, talks and workshops aimed at social and communal leaders, as well as people in general with the aim of strengthening their self-protection measures and thus prevent being victims of crime.
