In addition to neutralizing the threat of menaces, the Military Forces have intervened 117 mines for the illicit extraction of minerals, 56 laboratories for the production of narcotic drugs and have found 6,186 kilograms of illegal substances.
The General Commander of the Military Forces, Admiral Francisco Cubides, invited citizens to denounce and provided information that leads to the finding of members of illegal armed groups through lines 107 and 123.
Since the beginning of the so–called pistol plan – in mid-April - the Military Forces and the National Police have made about 217 arrests of members of the organized armed group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, as well as the neutralization of another 15 individuals in the framework of military operations, an equal number of surrenders and a minor recovered.
Ana Catalina Cano, the Minister of Defense in charge, said that this operation is the state's response to the armed threat of criminal structures. “We have seen how despite the intentions of these organized groups against the members of the Military Forces, the military forces and police officers have responded in a powerful way,” the official said.
In this context, the Military Commanders explained that since April 15, 123 firearms, 15,639 cartridges and 11 explosive devices have been found. The General Commander of the Military Forces, Admiral Francisco Cubides, added that, in addition to the military operation against the Clan del Golfo, the prevention and care of the Military Forces has been promoted. “There are guidelines of the Ministry of Defense, the Military Forces and the Police for men to be more careful, there is in the same way restriction of movements; in the same way, schedules are changed and there are levels of stationing in different regions of the country.”
For his part, the Director General of the Police, Brigadier General Carlos Fernando Triana, spoke about to the most recent cases of arrests of ringleaders in which alias Jerónimo, Boliqueso, Chaco and Pipa stand out, specialized in guiding criminal structures that seek to beat police officers and the military.
In the same way, he said that during the weekend alias Barranquilla and alias Mayinbú died, accused as responsible for the criminal operation perpetrated on April 16 in Salgar (Antioquia), where place officer Nelson Humberto Cárdenas was murdered.
Finally, Triana thanked the institution for its support and recalled that there are currently rewards for information that helps to dismantle the GAO Clan del Golfo and the reward provided by its main ringleader alias Chiquito Malo. "Thank you for your expressions of solidarity and support towards the National Police, towards the Military Forces; the invitation continue to be denouncing these criminals. The reward, as said by Mr. Admiral, reaches up to $4,378,000,000 COP,” he concluded.
Minister of Defense (acting) highlighted the role of women in military operations against the Clan del Golfo
The Minister of Defense in charge, Ana Catalina Cano, paid tribute to patrolwoman Karina Durán, who was murdered last April 25 in the department of Bolivar, and extolled the role of women in the Military Forces.
"I want to highlight the bravery and courage of the uniformed women of the National Police, especially to honor the memory of patrolwoman Karina Duran," she said. Cano in the same way recognized the recent military operations carried out in Remedios (Antioquia), Cartagena (Bolivar) and Monterrey (Casanare), where it was possible to neutralize those responsible for armed attacks. "This wave of violence, not only has been faced with courage, but in the same way with the professionalism and determination of the members of the Military Forces,” she concluded.
