He would be one of those in charge of preparing and training members of the terrorist group in the use of improvised explosive devices, used in recent attacks against troops on the Pan-American highway.
In the urban area of the municipality of El Bordo, Patía, southern Cauca, alias El Loco, alleged explosives expert of the residual organized armed group Carlos Patiño structure, was arrested in a joint operation conducted by troops of the Ground Operations Battalion No. 20 of the Third Division of Colombian National Army, the Prosecutor's Office and the National Police. This individual would be linked to the recent attacks with improvised explosives perpetrated against military units in March 2025, on the Pan-American Highway, in the department of Cauca.
The operation was carried out in compliance with a court order against him, after an investigative process in which the information provided by a human source was key. This led to establish his finding, confirm his identity and proceed with the arrest.
Alias El Loco would be one of those in charge of handling, manufacturing and activating improvised explosive devices within the criminal structure, a function that he had been fulfilling for several years, putting at serious risk the good physical condition of the communities of the region and of the troops, fulfilling so the constitutional mission of providing security in the southwest of the country.
The arrested man was put into custody of the authorities for the crime of manufacturing, trafficking and carrying firearms. At this moment, urgent operations are being taken to legalize his arrest.
Through this operation, the criminal capacity of the Carlos Patiño residual organized armed group to carry out attacks with explosives is directly hit, weakening one of the strategic components used by this structure to attack the Military Forces and the inhabitants.
