The 2 and 13 month-old children were severely malnourished and showing signs of dehydration.
In response to the request for support of the Wayúu people, of the village of La Flor, of the municipality of Riohacha, Department of La Guajira, the First Division, the Tenth Brigade and the Air Assault Aviation Division of Colombian National Army worked together on a humanitarian mission that led to stabilizing the health of two children with serious medical complications.
The crew of the HUEY-II helicopter flew more than five hours to reach the village.
The first stop was at the Almirante Padilla Airport in Riohacha, La Guajira Department, where the doctor of the Renacer Clinic boarded the aircraft, with biomedical equipment for the care of minors.
When they arrived at La Flor village, the two children and their mothers waited for them and, with the help of the soldiers of the Gustavo Matamoros DCosta Cavalry Group Battalion, they boarded the helicopter.
The children were evacuated to the Cartagena Battalion heliport in Riohacha, where they were urgently taken to the Renacer Clinic. They are currently receiving specialized medical assistance to stabilize their health.
