As part of the military operations carried out by Colombian National Army in Puerto Santander – department of Amazonas and Araracuara – department of Caquetá, various terrorist acts have been reported related to the indiscriminate use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) by members of the residual structures of the Residual Organized Armed Group, GAO-r, commanded by alias Ivan Mordisco, with the purpose of attacking the inhabitants and troops in urban and rural areas.
Colombian National Army, in strict respect for human rights and in compliance with international humanitarian law (IHL), publicly denounces that these events constitute systematic and indiscriminate attacks against the inhabitants.
As a result of these operations, troops reported the death of an individual due to the detonation of an AEI that he was manipulating and trying to install in the area, the EXDE and MARTE teams, of the Sixth Division, also reported deactivating two AEI in the urban area of Puerto Santander (Amazonas) and two AEI in the rainforest area of the upper part of Puerto Santander. In the same way, on August 18, 2025, at the request of the rector of the Puerto Santander School, a procedure was carried out to discard an AEI found in a classroom, an operation carried out in controlled conditions by the MARTE group, and on August 19, 2025, during one at the Fray Javier Balenciaga Boarding School, in Araracuara (Caquetá), and at the notice of the community, explosive traps were discarded.
Thanks to the operation of the specialized anti-explosive groups, it is reported that the urban areas of Puerto Santander and Araracuara are free of suspected mines, due to rigorous technical and tactical procedures conducted by the EXDE and MARTE teams.
This Command reaffirms that military operations are carried out in strict adherence to the Constitution, the law and with deep respect for the customs of the indigenous inhabitants who inhabit the Colombian Amazonas region.
The military operations in the area will continue until it works to increase the tranquility, security and confidence of the inhabitants of the departments of Amazonas and Caquetá.
