National Navy captures a member of the ELN Organized Armed Group

In recent hours, the Pacific Naval Force  through the Navy Infantry Brigade Units No.2, captured a member of the ELN Organized Armed Group of the "Cimarrón Resistance Front", and discovered material of war, military garments, communications and food, in the Catripe river, in the Lower Baudó, in the department of Chocó.

The events occurred at the time when Navy Infantry Battalion Units No. 22 carried out military search and control operations, in the area where this group has been carrying out illegal acts against the civilian population.

This operation, planned with intelligence information, led the Navy Units to make offensive presence, in an area of interest of the ELN, and during these operations, members of this Organized Armed Group, aboard a boat, shot at the troops and a firefight took place for about 30 minutes, which caused the troops’ reaction in legitimate defense.

At the end of the firefight, the individuals jumped into the water and escaped. Subsequently, the troops proceeded to verify the boat and found pentolite based explosives, a grenade launcher, communication equipment, military accessories, an outboard motor and more than 100 kilograms of food.

The individual captured by the troops and the materials were put into custody of the Attorney General's Office. At this time, the Colombian Navy through the Navy Infantry Brigade No.2, keeps on executing the operation to find and capture or demobilize the runaways, and prevent this Organized Armed Group from carrying out crimes against civilian population in the Colombian North Pacific region.
