In compliance with the commitment in 2024, with the Wayúu people of Karasúa, the Colombian Navy, in coordination with public and private institutions, successfully completed the installation of an eco-sustainable classroom at the Madre Laura Ethno-school, in the village of Puerto Estrella, municipality of Uribia, department of La Guajira.
This innovative education construction was manufactured 90% with recycled plastic material, which represents a significant progress in the implementation of sustainable solutions for education in territories. The construction of the classroom was possible thanks to the management of the Colombiaseo Foundation and the joint work with its strategic allies: Colombiaseo SA, Ecologísticas Marín, Gilpa Impresores, Plaspel SA and the National Learning Service - SENA ASTIN, who provided technical knowledge, materials and logistics to make this project a reality.
The distribution of the classroom took place within the framework of a development support activity, which was carried out in the communities of Punta Espada and Karasúa, in which institutions such as 4x4 Barranquilla, the Mayor's Office of Uribia, Cine Colombia, Corporación Minuto de Dios, the Colombian Institute of Family Wellbeing - ICBF, the Government of the Department of La Guajira, the Maicao Hospital, among other institutions actively participated.
During the activity, in addition to the installation of the classroom, specialized medical services were provided, food baskets were distributed, as well as medicines, clothes, presents and foods with high nutritional value, such as food supplement. Leisure and recreational activities, an outdoor cinema under the stars and a community football tournament were in the same way carried out.
The construction of this eco-sustainable classroom not only represents a milestone in educational construction for Alta Guajira, but in the same way constitutes an open invitation to all public and private institutions that wish to join this initiative. Efforts makes it possible to transform realities and build opportunities for thousands of Wayúu children and youth, with dignified spaces to learn and grow.
Thanks to the inter-institutional coordination in this project, it was possible to benefit more than 2,300 people, strengthening access to basic services in this remote region of the country, reaffirming the commitment of the Colombian Navy to sustainable development and the preservation of the Wayúu cultural identity.
