Neutralization of the threat of alias “Chatarra,” second ringleader of the Clan de Oriente

Thanks to an intelligence work and the pressure exerted by the troops in the departments of Antioquia and Caldas, it was possible to find alias Chatarra, for whom the government of Antioquia offered a reward of more than 40 million pesos.

In development of the Ayacucho Campaign Plan, National Army troops, through an inter-institutional work with the Attorney General's Office, reported the arrest of alias Chatarra, the second ringleader of the organized gang (GDO) Clan del Golfo de Oriente.

The facts took place in the village center La Gallera, in the municipality of Samaná, department of Caldas, where the soldiers arrived along with CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) officials to arrest this individual by judicial order.

This 24-year-old man, in addition to managing the finances of the criminal organization, was apparently in charge of carrying out selective assassinations, painting the facades of houses and vehicles with the initials of the Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AGC), as well as the use and dissemination of pamphlets to cause fear and intimidation to the inhabitants of the departments of Antioquia and Caldas.

He in the same way threatened civilians to force illicit plantations and he also extorted money from merchants, the mining workers and transportation sectors.

He is in the same way responsible for the armed strike of the last month of February 2023 in the municipalities of Argelia and Nariño, Antioquia.

This ringleader must face charges of extortion, manufacturing, trafficking, carrying firearms, ammunition and/or explosives and trafficking and/or carrying narcotics and association to commit crimes.
