Neutralization of the threat of a mining production unit in the east of Antioquia

Neutralizada unidad de producción minera en el oriente de Antioquia

The environmental damage caused to the ecosystem will take 40 years to recover.

In compliance with the commitments at the Ministerial Security Council in the municipality of Granada, and as a result of coordinated operations with the National Police, troops of the Special Energy and Road Battalion of the Fourth Brigade destroyed an illicit mining production unit, thanks to information provided by military intelligence.

The operation was carried out in the village of El Topacio, municipality of San Rafael, Antioquia, where the soldiers found an excavator, 2 diver-type dredgers, 2 motor pumps and a mineral classifier. All the material was put into custody of the authorities.

This military operation, framed in the Ayacucho Operations Plan, represents a significant blow against the so-called Pacificadores de Samaná Substructure of the Clan del Golfo.

It was possible to hit the illegal activities of this organized armed group, with losses estimated at more than 1,700 million pesos, and stop the environmental damage that their mining activity generated in the region.

Colombian National Army continues to deploy its resources to protect the country's natural resources and weaken the sources of financing for the organized armed groups that commit crimes in Antioquia and other regions.
