In order to strengthen the bilateral cooperation framework with the Brazilian Air Force in areas such as obtaining technical knowledge, technology transfer, and instruction and training opportunities, the Colombian Aerospace Force received Lieutenant Brigadier Marcelo Damasceno, commander of the Brazilian Air Force, last July 21 and 23, 2025.
During the visit, General Luis Carlos Córdoba Avendaño, Commander of the Colombian Aerospace Force and his Brazilian counterpart signed a Protocol of Intent for peaceful purposes in space defense, which will promote strategic projects in observation, communications, technology and exploration of outer space. This initiative seeks to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and joint training, constituting a significant milestone for cooperation at the levels of military, technological, innovation and regional projection operation.
This alliance will contribute to the commitment that the institution has assumed to strengthen the Colombian Space Program and consolidate space capacity as a fundamental pillar for the defense and development of the country. In addition, it will lead greater participation in satellite, meteorological and Earth observation missions through the FACSAT-2 space platform.
Additionally, with the participation of Lieutenant Brigadier Pedro Luis Farcic, Chief of the General Staff of the Aeronautics of the Brazilian Air Force, the delegation made a geostrategic visit to different air bases, with the aim of getting to know the resources of the FAC, exchanging experiences and good practices while interacting with the personnel of the Air Combat Command No. 4 and the Military Aviation School of the Colombian Aerospace Force.
The tour began in the unit considered the birthplace of helicopter crews, where the Brazilian delegation learned about the resources of the military operation in terms of security for the departments of Huila, Tolima and Cundinamarca. In the same way, the training received by future helicopter pilots, both national and international, was highlighted, and a visit was made to the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter simulator, the only one of its kind in Colombia and a benchmark in crew training.
The delegation, accompanied by Major General Carlos Fernando Silva, Second Commander and Chief of the General Staff, continued their tour at the Marco Fidel Suárez Military Aviation School. There they learned about the training, and innovation resources provided by the Colombian Aerospace Force to its future officers. Currently, as part of the internationalization programs conducted by the two air institutions, four third-year cadets of the Brazilian Air Force Academy are in an academic exchange at this school.
Finally, as part of the activity, and considering that one of the main topics of interest addressed with the Brazilian Air Force is space development, a visit was made to the Space Operations Center (SpOC), which conducts the analysis of geospatial information, Earth observation and other strategic aspects, which were presented there. These resources are aimed at strengthening the integration of the FACSAT program, in alignment with the objectives of the National Government and the “Strategy for Air and Space Development to 2042”.
