This powerful blow to the illegal finances of this organized armed group was made possible with the seizure of approximately one ton of cocaine hydrochloride.
Within the framework of the deployment of the troops of the Command Against Drug Trafficking and Transnational Threats, CONAT, according to intelligence information, it was possible to find and destroy a laboratory used by members of the Juan Fernando Porras Martínez Front, of the GAO ELN, for the production of cocaine hydrochloride.
The coca-growing complex that housed 15 rustic constructions by means of wooden structures, plastic and zinc roofs, destined to the production, storage, accommodation and logistical operation of the laboratory, was found by troops of the Brigade Against Drug Trafficking N° 2 in the village Peña de la Virgen, municipality of Villacaro.
In the megalaboratory, the soldiers of the Ground Operations Battalion No. 8, with units of the Anti-Narcotics Directorate of the National Police, found 960 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride, 264 gallons of cocaine hydrochloride in suspension and 165 gallons of cocaine base in suspension. In addition to 1558 gallons of liquid precursors and 250 kilograms of solid precursors, as well as elements and equipment necessary to process the alkaloid.
With this military operation, which counted on the support of the Army Aviation, the Colombian Aerospace Force and based on intelligence information, the GAO ELN will stop receiving, product of this illicit economy, COP$5459 million.
During the military search of this laboratory set up by the ELN in a municipality of Norte de Santander that is difficult to access, due to the topography of the terrain and the illegal armed groups, the soldiers found an improvised explosive device that they intended to activate to attack the troops.
Colombian National Army, with its elite unit in the fight against drug trafficking, is constant in its military operation with the mission of continuing to hit illicit finances, protect the environment and the lives of Colombians.
