As a result of a coordinated operation conducted by the Colombian Air Force and the National Police, two excavators that were used for the illicit extraction of minerals were destroyed, in the department of Chocó.

Within the framework of the operation of the National Unit against Illegal Mining and Counterterrorism and the participation of the Attorney’s Office specialize in crimes against Natural Resources, the controlled destruction of machinery -that deforested more than 3,200 hectares in the Quito River- was carried out.

With this operation, the finances of the Organized Armed Group (GAO) Clan del Golfo were harmed, since it will no longer receive about USD $345,000 for gold production per year.

The machinery and logistics areas used in the illegal mining are valued at more than USD $4.5 million, were affected through the operation.
