PRESS RELEASE

COMUNICADO DE PRENSA

The Command of the Eighth Brigade, Unit of the Fifth Division of Colombian National Army, informs:

1. In relation to a video that is circulating on social networks, where an altercation takes place between two military is evident, it is important to clarify that these are two soldiers who are serving their mandatory military service, at the base of the High Mountain Battalion No. 5, in the municipality of Calarcá, Quindío.

2. It is in the same way necessary to point out that this situation occurred due to a lack of tolerance between the two men, in which there was no participation of an officer or non-commissioned officer or the Military Unit, so it did not imply a possible attack by a superior towards a subordinate or a case of abuse of authority.

3. The Battalion where the soldiers are serving initiated the relevant disciplinary investigation and brought the facts to the assistance of the Military Criminal Justice, in order to adopt the corresponding actions within the framework of its competencies.

4. Colombian National Army categorically rejects this type of behavior, because it does not constitute the actions of the Colombian soldier, and they blur the institutional image of Colombian National Army, which has internal policies based on Principles and Values of respect and good treatment among superiors, subordinates and comrades.

5. The Institution works permanently to strengthen respect, tolerance and companionship among the personnel of the branch, always seeking the well-being of all men and women at the service of the homeland.
