PRESS RELEASE

COMUNICADO DE PRENSA

The Command of the Twenty-Third Brigade, unit of the Third Division of Colombian National Army, informs:

1. Within the framework of Operation Cordillera, which aims to preserve security in the department of Nariño, today, January 25, 2025, a non-commissioned officer and a Soldier, of the Rapid Deployment Battalion No. 5, were victims of the activation of an anti-personnel mine in a rural area of the municipality of La Llanada.

2. After this situation, the members of the Military Forces were immediately assisted by combat nurses, who provided them with first aid. Their health condition is stable and they will be evacuated to a nearby hospital soon.

3. Apparently this area prepared with improvised explosive devices would have been installed by members of the organized armed group Comuneros del Sur, which commits crimes in the sector.

4. These terrorist acts are a serious violation of human rights and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, for which the respective denunciations will be filed with the authorities.

5. Colombian National Army rejects the cowardly operations of this organized armed group that attacks the security and well-being of communities, highlighting that explosive devices are manufactured to kill with excessive pain or to incapacitate their victims without any distinction.
