Press Release

The Command of the Third Division of the National Army informs preliminarily:

1. According to information provided by the Highway Police and the driver of a collective passenger transport vehicle, Sergeant Juan Gabriel Chachinoy Miramag was kidnapped.

2. The non-commissioned officer, who was in a time off, was traveling according to the first information about the sector known as El Hoyo, between the municipalities of El Tambo and El Patía, in the department of Cauca.

3. Men in civilian clothing carrying small firearms who identified themselves as members of the Carlos Patiño residual armed group stopped the bus and that's when they kidnapped our non-commissioned officer.

4. In coordination with the local authorities in the region, as soon as the action became known, the search operation was immediately activated. In the same way, the internal protocols of accompaniment to the family of our uniformed began.

5. This criminal operation is a flagrant violation of human rights and violation of international humanitarian law, so the National Army rejects these facts, and has already made the denunciation to the authority.

6. We consider this criminal operation unacceptable, ratifying that our serviceman was in a state of defenselessness; we demand respect for his life and his immediate release so that he returns to his family.
