Press release

The command of the Quirón Task Force, a military unit of the Eighth Division of the National Army, informs:

1.    On Friday, April 23 of this year, at night, troops carrying out military operations to protect civilians in the municipality of Arauquita, Department of Arauca, were victims of a cowardly terrorist operation apparently by members of the organized armed group Eln.

2.    The terrorists, in the sector known as Brisas De Caranal, using rifle bursts, killed First Sergeant Robinson Rodríguez Murillo and wounded four other soldiers.

3.    The wounded are being treated in a Medical Center in the municipality of Saravena.

4.    The military unit informed the judicial authorities of what had happened.

5.    The National Army rejects this terrorist act, which flagrantly violates international humanitarian law.

6.    Military operations in the area will be strengthened to find those who seek to undermine the peace of the region.

7.    We send a heartfelt message of condolences to the family, partners and colleagues of our NCO killed in the line of duty, and we ask God to give them the necessary strength in this difficult time; in the same way, our wounded staff is being accompanied in their recovery.
