PRESS RELEASE OF THE COLOMBIAN NATIONAL ARMY

Regarding the events that occurred in the department of Cauca, the Command of the Third Division of the National Army informs:

1. In events that are still a matter of investigation, troops of the Apolo Consolidation and Stabilization Command were attacked when security and defense operations were being carried out at a control checkpoint in the municipality of Corinto, Cauca.

2. According to the first information, some individuals opened fire on the troops, and wounded our soldiers Luis David Méneses Ramírez and Bernandino Fierro Díaz. Immediately the combat nurses gave them first aid, and then they were taken to the nearest health center, but unfortunately during the travel our soldier Bernandino Fierro Díaz died.

3. Luis David Ménese Ramírez was stabilized and was evacuated to the city of Cali, where at this time he is treated by specialized personnel at the Valle del Lili Foundation Clinic, which in its first medical report said that he was out of danger.

4. This Command mourns the death of our soldier, a hero of the country, and sends a message of condolences to family and friends. In the same way, we categorically reject this criminal act that becomes a flagrant violation of human rights and an infringement of international humanitarian law.
