The illegal mining unit extracted approximately 2,150 grams of gold per month, with an estimated cost of 838 million pesos.
Soldiers of the Special Energy and Road Battalion No. 4, of the Fourth Brigade, in compliance with the strategic line of weakening the resources of the of threat in the framework of the Ayacucho Plus Operations Plan, and in coordination with the Aerospace Force, the Carabineros Directorate of the Antioquia and Cornare Police, found and disabled in controlled conditions an illegal mining production unit.
The military operation was carried out in the Calderas village, municipality of San Carlos, in the East of Antioquia, where it was possible to disable a backhoe, a classification machine, 8 engines and approximately 300 gallons of fuel. This material was used for the illicit extraction of gold. In the same way, ten people were arrested who were in the place carrying.
With the destruction of the materials, it was possible to reduce the environmental impact generated by the deforestation of more than 3500 trees and the removal of approximately 15,000 m3 of subsoil, whose vegetal recovery is estimated in a period of 40 years. It in the same way contributed to the restoration of the natural channel of the water sources of the region.
In the same way, troops hit the sources of financing of the Pacificadores de Samaná Substructure, of the GAO Clan del Golfo, a criminal organization that strengthened its military capacity through these resources, with the purpose of executing criminal operations against the Military Forces and disturbing the inhabitants.
