Soldiers work on the improvement of drinking water wells in 4 municipalities of Santander, hit by the drought season

Soldados trabajan en el mejoramiento de pozos de agua potable en 4 municipios de Santander, afectados por la temporada de sequía

Specialized personnel and equipment arrived from the Military Fort of Tolemaida to benefit more than 5,000 inhabitants, hit by the shortage of water adequate for human consumption.

Soldiers of the Engineer Battalion Nº 5 Coronel Francisco José de Caldas and the Special Operations Battalion Nº 90 work hard on the adaptation, maintenance and improvement of the construction and piping of drinking water wells that supply the municipalities of Lebrija, San Gil, Villanueva and Barichara, in the department of Santander.

Highly qualified and trained soldiers were in charge of these works, as well as specialized teams that arrived from the Military Fort of Tolemaida to work for the proper development of these works, with which more than 5,000 inhabitants of these municipalities will benefit.

With these works and in the midst of the drought season that the country is experiencing, the aim is to supply these communities, in adequate conditions for human consumption; therefore, it is important not only to maintain the structure, but the entire network of the system itself.

The El Niño phenomenon has been damaging in various ways the normal development and quality of life of Colombians; the high temperatures have left in their wake fires of great magnitude, incalculable losses of fauna, flora in various ecosystems and in the same way a shortage of drinking water.

For this reason, in compliance with the Ayacucho Plan, within the framework of the unified operations and in coordination with the Departmental Office of Risk Management of Santander, the Fifth Brigade of Colombian National Army is constant in its firm commitment to continue taking the necessary measures and operations, through its Differential Resources to support in the mitigation of the environmental impact generated by that time of drought in the department.
