Spanish citizen was rescued at sea in the insular region

The Navy of Colombia through its units of the Specific Command of San Andrés y Providencia, saved the life of a 68-year-old Spanish man, who was transported on board a sailboat that suffered failures in one of its propellers, at 35 nautical miles to the north of Cayo Serranilla Island.

An emergency call to the Operations Center of the Navy of Colombia, began the deployment of naval units to conduct the search and rescue operation of the Spanish citizen, who on board the sailboat 'Tuno' had arrived last February 19 in the island of Providencia, due to propulsion problems, and once repaired, he went to sea, last April 1, bound for Port Antonio - Jamaica.

In implementation of the International Agreement for the Safety of Human Life in the Sea -SOLAS, the surface units of the Caribbean Naval Force established communication with the Singapore-flagged "Epic Belta" tanker, which guided to the place of the emergency, a ship of the Navy of Colombia, to support the rescue.

In the ARC 'San Andres' Marine Patrol of the Navy of Colombia, the elderly received medical assistance, being able to determine that he was in stable health conditions.
