Six villages were toured along 180 nautical miles along the Magdalena River, with the participation of more than 200 volunteers.
More than 10 thousand people benefited from this initiative led by the Colombian Navy and the Bolivar Governorate.
During 16 days of navigation through the country's main river, the Colombian Navy, through the Caribbean Naval Force, successfully completed the tenth edition of the inter-institutional campaign Sailing to the Heart of the Magdalena, a journey that reaffirms the commitment of the civil and military authorities to social development, territorial consolidation and access to essential services for the river communities of the department of Bolivar.
Since the departure of the Amphibious Landing Ship ARC Golfo de Urabá on June 24, the campaign visited six villages: San Cristóbal, Robles, Zambrano, Córdoba Tetón, Talaigua Nuevo and Pinillos, where Development Support Activities were carried out that directly benefited more than 10 thousand people and indirectly more than 40,000 inhabitants of the region.
With the coordination of efforts conducted by the Colombian Navy, the Government of Bolívar, municipal mayoralties and allied institutions of the national and local order, it was possible to provide general and specialized medical assistance, free legal advice, psychosocial counseling, distribution of humanitarian aid, beauty services, institutional programs of the Colombian Institute of Family Wellbeing – ICBF - and Migracion Colombia, as well as recreational and educational activities for children and adolescents. In the same way, this edition of the campaign incorporated listening spaces and legal accompaniment by the Justo Bolívar program, strengthening access to justice in areas with structural limitations of State presence.
More than 200 volunteers and professionals from different areas traveled, who, through mobile units, river and land means, bring well-being, hope and institutional presence to historically forgotten areas.
