Three individuals arrested for illegal use of Natural Resources

The illicit use of Natural Resources in the country is defined in Article 328 of the Colombian Penal Code. In the same way, the legal timber trade in the country must be carried out with specific and technical conditions that include the planting of trees for production, the care of arable soil, the reforestation of forests and the felling of trees when they are in decay, among others.

Troops of the National Army, in an operation coordinated with the National Police, arrested three individuals who were illegally felling trees, in the rural area of Viso De Upía, municipality of Cabuyaro, Meta.

At the scene, the soldiers found 18 metres of Ceiba wood, which was to be illegally traded. These arrests were carried out within the framework of the Bicentenary plan Heroes de Libertad and the Operation Artemisa, focused on supporting environmental sustainability, preservation of water, biodiversity and Natural Resources.

During 2021, the National Army has found 87 cubic meters of wood in different sectors of the Department of Meta. The three arrested individuals and the material were put into custody of the Attorney General's Office for the crime of illicit use of renewable natural resources.

The National Army in Meta conducts military operations to attack environmental crimes in the Orinoquía, and will continue to stop criminal hands that seek to devastate Colombia's forest reserves.
