In Tumaco, department of Nariño, Colombian National Army dismantled an illegal explosives hideout with more than 100 anti-personnel mines of the residual GAO Ivan Ríos

 En Tumaco, Nariño, Ejército Nacional desmanteló depósito ilegal de explosivos con más de 100 minas anti personal del GAO residual ‘Iván Ríos’

The military operation of the soldiers reaffirms the mission's commitment to the protection of life, respect for International Humanitarian Law and the tranquility of the Nariño Pacific region.

 

Within the framework of the Ayacucho Plus Campaign Plan, troops of the Rainforest Battalion No. 53, AS of the Hercules Task Force, reported the finding and destruction of an illegal hiding place with explosives belonging, according to military intelligence information, to the residual organized armed group (GAO-r) National Coordinator Bolivarian Army, Ivan Rios Structure, an organization that insists on the manufacture and use of improvised explosive devices as a method for conducting criminal war operations.

 

The operation carried out in the village of La Brava, rural area of Tumaco, department of Nariño, led to the finding of 100 anti-personnel mines, 73 improvised explosive devices with ready-to-use electrical systems, rudimentary projectiles, metal components and more than 80 kg of chemical substances such as ammonium nitrate and pentolite, which were to be used for the manufacture of new explosive devices that could hit the inhabitants and the troops who travel permanently on rural roads.

 

The controlled destruction of the material was carried out under strict security protocols, works for the integrity of the troops and the people of the sector, reaffirming the commitment of Colombian National Army with respect for life and international humanitarian law.
