A help call of the Panamanian flag boat "Pajarita", began the search and rescue operation of the Colombian Navy, which led to the rescue of the lives of 12 foreign sailors at the sea.

The successful operation took place in the area of the Golfo de Morrosquillo, after the Coveñas Marine Traffic Control Station received the report of the emergency of the ship, caused by an uncontrollable entry of water into the Panamanian sailing ship, which would have departed last March 7 at the port of Panama, bound for Cartagena (Colombia).

In compliance with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea SOLAS (for its acronym in English), the tanker "SCT SURGUT" that was in the area and the ship ARC "11 de Noviembre" of the Caribbean Naval Force, guided by the valuable information provided by the Coast Guard Station of Coveñas, arrived at the place to rescue alive 10 passengers from Europe and two from South American, who made a tour by the waters of the Colombian Caribbean.

Thanks to the rapid reaction, it was possible to save the lives of the twelve people who received medical assistance without any complexity for their health. So far this year, 50 people have been rescued during emergencies in the Caribbean Sea by the Colombian authorities.
