Wayúu Community of Alta Guajira received a visit of the National Government and the USA

1263 Wayúu  indigenous people including children, youth and older adults from different communities received medical attention, in the same way, 12 surgeries were conducted in coordination with the San Rafael de San Juan del Cesar Hospital. It is the report at the closure of the first phase of the 'Exercise Vita’ that takes place in the Upper Guajira region, thanks to the combined and joint humanitarian assistance capacities of the Colombian Military Forces and the Bravo Task Force, of the United States Southern Command.

 

This time the opportunity was for the inhabitants of Tres Bocas, a municipality in Uribia, who received a visit of the Minister of National Defense, Holmes Trujillo, the United States Ambassador to Colombia, Philip S. Goldberg, the general commander of the Colombian Military Forces, and the second military commander of the United States Southern Command, among other civilian and military authorities, who gave an emotional greeting to the community and to the civilian and military medical team which is ready to fulfil the needs in indigenous health.

 

In his speech, Defense Minister Holmes Trujillo stated that “it is very pleasant to be here, not only because it is a beautiful place in Colombia, but also because, with our strategic ally, with whom we share values ​​and visions, we are conducting a new combined and joint exercise between the Colombian Military Forces and the Joint Task Force Bravo, of the US Southern Command.”

 

“This effort helps us to strengthen our reciprocal capacity in order to face threats and humanitarian crises. The action of working together, in a community like this, is further evidence of the values ​​unite us, the criteria we share and the visions inspire us, "said Trujillo.

 

For his part, Ambassador Philip S. Goldberg said that “it is an honor to be part of this sample, not only because of the importance of the Defense relationship between the United States and Colombia, but in the same way because of the ability that our forces have to respond to crises and provide care for our societies, in addition to the alliance and historical partnership of our countries. This exercise is important to the interoperability of our forces, not only to prepare our countries for combat, but to give aid, humanitarian assistance and medical support to all the inhabitants of this region. ”
