The Colombian Navy, in coordination with the General Maritime Directorate and with the support of the merchant boats Orion leader and AS Fabrizia, safeguarded the lives of five people, two Colombians and three Dominicans, who were adrift at sea.

According to information provided, the boat presented failures, remaining adrift for approximately four days. The search and rescue operation began when the call was received by the ship monitoring system, through the Orion leader who reported it visualized a Sailboat-type ship named Falia, 168 nautical miles from Santa Marta.

Thanks to the coordination of efforts of the Navy of Colombia and the timely coordination with the Directorate General, the merchant ship AS FABRIZIA, which was transiting the area, find the boat making possible the immediate rescue of the five people, putting them in safety. The drifting boat could not be towed due to the difficult weather conditions and the heavy waves in the area.

Subsequently, the rescued people were transported 30 nautical miles off the coast of Santa Marta, where a meeting point was established at sea with a Rapid Reaction Unit of the Santa Marta Coast Guard Station and were taken to the facilities of the Colombian Navy, in order to provide medical assistance and rule out any type of injury to then be reunited with their relatives safe and sound.
