Comando General de las Fuerzas Militares: 72 años trabajando por la seguridad y el bienestar de Colombia

This 2023, the Ayacucho Joint Strategic Campaign Plan was implemented, which has four specific objectives: to protect civilians, to weaken Resources belonging to the threat, to protect governance and to protect the military forces and the Strategic Resources.

With about 300 thousand men and women of the National Army, the Colombian Navy and the Colombian Air Force, the 72nd anniversary of the creation of the General Command of the Military Forces is being commemorated, an institution that works for the security, defense, protection and wellbeing of civilians.

By Decree 0835 of April 16, 1951, the National Government created the position of General Commander of the Military Forces, with the functions that the Chief of the General Staff had until then, being General Gustavo Rojas Pinilla the first to hold that position.

Similarly, with the signing of Decree 835 of 1951, it was said that the General Directors of the three branches would henceforth be called: Commander of the Army, Navy and Air Force.

The General Command is the institution with the highest level of strategic planning and direction for military institutions in the country. Under its command are the men of land, sea, river and air that make up the National Army, the Colombian Navy and the Colombian Air Force, who are responsible for conducting military operations aimed at defending sovereignty, independence and the entirety of the territory, protecting civilians, private and State resources, to contribute to generating an environment of peace, security and development, which works for the constitutional order of the Nation.

The different dependencies of the General Command of the Military Forces issue guidelines and command policies for the troops in strict and full compliance with the mission framed in article 217 of our National Constitution.

With 72 years of history, the General Command of the Military Forces is constant in its commitment to the safety and well-being of Colombians. It currently integrates the Resources of the Army, Navy and Air Force through the Ayacucho Joint Strategic Campaign Plan 2023 to 2026, with the objective of combating any type of threat that threatens civilians.
