The semi-submarine, which measures 20 meters long and four meters wide, is one of the largest found in recent years.
During the first month of the year, the Colombian Navy has found about 10 tons of cocaine hydrochloride, of which more than six have been found in the Colombian Pacific.
In the course of a maritime interception operation carried out by units of the Colombian Navy against drug trafficking, a semi-submarine type naval device was intercepted when it was sailing manned by four foreign individuals transporting four tons of cocaine. With this operation, the Pacific Naval Force prevented the trafficking and consumption of about 12 million doses of cocaine and the entry of more than 135 million dollars into the finances of drug trafficking structures.
In the maritime interception procedure, ships of the Colombian Navy, Coast Guard units, Naval Aviation and foreign support participated, which led to the detection of the illegal device, which at the time of starting the search began to enter water and so, to safeguard the lives of the crew, it was necessary to place them in the Coast Guard unit and initiate the process of evacuation; in the same way, the water ingress was contained to transfer it to the Coast Guard Station of Tumaco.
Members of the Technical Investigation Staff of the Attorney General's Office conducted the approved preliminary identification test to the packages, which left positive result for 4,025 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride. The individuals will be prosecuted for the alleged crime of trafficking, manufacturing and carrying narcotics.
With this interception and finding, it was possible to decisively hit the finances of the drug trafficking structures, reducing their logistical capacity to finance their illicit activities.
