Thanks to the timely reaction of units of the Colombian Navy, it was possible to rescue 15 people who were in a maritime emergency four nautical miles of the sea buoy in Cartagena.
The rescue operation began, once the Cartagena Coast Guard Station received the alert call by the Caribbean Naval Force Operations Center, about a tourist boat that was drifting apparently with 15 people on board. A rapid reaction unit was immediately deployed to the scene of the emergency.
Upon arriving at the area, members of the Coast Guard of the Naval Institution rescued the 15 passengers in a timely manner, including seven adults, four minors, three elderly people and an infant, providing them with first aid.
Once safe, the people were evacuated on board the Naval Unit to the dock of the Cartagena Coast Guard Station. The emergency would have occurred when the yacht-type boat named Seaquel presented failures in its machinery losing control and being adrift.
The Colombian Navy, through the Coast Guard Units of the Caribbean Naval Force, continues to carry out maritime control and surveillance operations in coordination with the authorities to safeguard human life at sea. In the same way, it invites locals and tourists to enjoy the holiday season in the Colombian Caribbean following all security measures.
