Colombian Navy rescues 11 people in San Andrés waters

The boat that would have sailed from the San Luis sector heading for Haynes Cay, sank apparently due to a hull failure.

During a search and rescue operation, units of the Colombian Navy in San Andrés, rescued 11 people, who shipwrecked when the boat in which they were traveling suffered an emergency at sea.

Apparently, the difficult weather conditions in the sector known as Haynes Cay, the island, caused a hull failure that caused the sinking of the boat.

The Control Tower and Maritime Traffic received the alert call of the boat Explendor, which was transiting by the area of the wreck and reported the sighting of some people in emergency. Immediately, Rapid Reaction Units of the San Andrés Coast Guard Station were deployed to start the search and rescue operation.

Upon arriving at the scene of the events, the Colombian Sailors pulled the 11 people who were drifting out of the water and provided them with first aid.

The rescued personnel were transported to the dock facilities of the San Andrés Coast Guard Station, where they were received by the medical staff of the Emergency Regulatory Center - CRUE - in order to provide specialized medical assistance.

It should be noted that, in 2022, in San Andrés and Providencia, the Colombian Navy has carried out 13 search and rescue operations in the waters of the Archipelago department, rescuing 198 people.
